But Why Do Some “Repellents” Have Blue Lights?

This is where it gets interesting.

There are two main possibilities:

1️⃣ It’s Not Actually a Repellent — It’s a Trap

Some products are marketed loosely as “mosquito control” devices but are actually:

  • UV attractant
  • Electric trap
  • Sticky trap

They’re designed to attract and kill, not repel.

2️⃣ The Blue Light Is Just Decorative

Some devices use blue LED lighting simply because:

  • It looks “high-tech”
  • It signals “anti-bug” to customers
  • It creates nighttime visibility

But the actual repellent function may come from:

  • Ultrasonic sound
  • Heat
  • Carbon dioxide release
  • Chemical vapor

In those cases, the blue light isn’t the repellent — it’s branding.
